Getting started
In this article, we will tell you everything you need to know about compatibility for Apple’s new Mac operating system, macOS 10.14 Mojave. Mojave was officially released on September 24th and is available to all compatible Macs. After verifying compatibility in this article, visit our download and install Mojave guide.Check back often for the latest Mojave compatibility news and information.
What is macOS 10.14 Mojave?
macOS 10.14 Mojave is the latest announced version of Mac operating systems. Like past macOS releases, Apple added more optimizations, updates, and new features to Mojave. Apple’s Mojave page highlights some of the fascinating changes to the Mac operating system.
The full version of Mojave was officially released on September 24th. If you’re familiar with previous operating systems, the update process is the same. If Mojave will be your first OS upgrade, Apple has made their upgrade process as simple and user-friendly as possible. It’s as simple as downloading Mojave from the App Store.
Mojave Release Date
Apple has traditionally released their new operating systems in late summer or early fall. Mac officially released macOS 10.14 Mojave on September 24th. Learn more about the new features on Apple’s Mojave page.
Should I upgrade to Mojave?
Answer: it depends! Many engineers, producers, and musicians are affected by macOS compatibility issues when upgrading, and we don’t want your studio temporarily out of commission while you’ve got work to do. Upgrading before the final version is released is NOT recommended, especially if you’re in the middle of a project. Many manufacturers of audio interfaces and other studio software and hardware will wait until the full version has been released to test and update their drivers.
While your computer might be compatible with Mojave, your DAW, plug-ins, or even the drivers for your interface or MIDI controller might not be ready yet. That means that if you upgrade now, there’s a chance your studio could stop working. Sweetwater highly recommends waiting until you see your DAW, audio interface, MIDI devices, plug-ins, etc. listed as compatible below before upgrading your operating system –there’s nothing to lose by waiting until everything is compatible.
If you have verified that all your gear is compatible with Mojave, take a look at our download and install guide for more information.
Audio and MIDI Device Drivers
If your audio or MIDI device requires a driver software installer from the manufacturer, then you should wait to upgrade until the manufacturer has either released an updated driver or confirmed compatibility with Mojave. Class Compliant devices do not have a unique driver and instead use the native macOS drivers. While we recommend waiting for the manufacturer’s confirmation, macOS compatibility issues for class compliant devices are extremely rare. We’ll update this page with the latest information as soon as manufacturers announce compatibility.
How to Download and Install macOS Mojave
Follow this guide to learn more about downloading and installing macOS 10.14 Mojave on your Mac.
What are Mojave’s system requirements?
As software and hardware capabilities increase, so do their system requirements. That means that some computers won’t be able to keep up with an OS that was designed with the latest and greatest in mind.
Apple provides system requirements for the operating system upon each release. Mojave lists the following supported Mac computers. If your Mac is on the list, then it can be upgraded to Mojave. Unfortunately, Macs that are not on this list won’t work with macOS 10.14 Mojave. Not sure which Mac you have? Check the list below or visit our computer specs page to learn how.
